Before you contact us

1. The languages we work in

By telephone and by email we work in Japanese or Chinese.
In any other language, we ask that a family member, friend or interpreter who speaks Japanese joins you, or contacts us on your behalf. The same applies to meetings after you engage us.

2. Whether it is something we can take on

What a Gyoseishoshi may handle is defined by law. Please check which of the two lists below your situation falls into.

We can take this on

  • Certificate of Eligibility, change of status, extension of period of stay, and Permanent Residence Permission
  • Re-applications where an application for a Status of Residence or naturalization was refused
  • Applications where circumstances have changed through a new job, a divorce or living apart
  • Application for Naturalization
  • Company formation (drafting and certifying the articles of incorporation)
  • Grave closure, Permit for Reinterment, scattering of ashes at sea
  • Drafting wills and estate division agreements

We cannot take this on

  • Applications containing statements that are not true, or work involving forged or altered documents
  • Work premised on a marriage or an employment relationship that does not really exist
  • Matters involving litigation or dispute, such as court proceedings or deportation procedures (these are the work of an attorney)
  • The incorporation registration itself (this is the work of a judicial scrivener)
  • Tax filings (these are the work of a tax accountant)

If you cannot tell which applies, you are welcome to contact us anyway.

3. That approval is not guaranteed

It is the Regional Immigration Services Bureau or the Legal Affairs Bureau that decides whether to grant or refuse an application. This office cannot guarantee the outcome.
We may also decline a request if, after hearing the details, we judge that we cannot be of help.
